When Alliance bought Chessex the market closed ranks.
When Diamond made its exclusive deal with Marvel and then bought Alliance the chance of surviving as a niche store buckled.
It made it go from having a to be market savvy and the ability to develop a niche market to having basically three catalogs to choose from, Diamond, GW, and WOTC.
And before that when WOTC went to mass market outlets like WalMart ...
And getting distribution through GW has always been paying them for an opportunity to compete with their mail order. They wonder why their distribution sales are down when they release almost all of their new product on mail order up to 3 months before its indy retailer street date.
That and "Cousin Bob's Magic Closet" boiler room internet mail order outfit has pretty much knocked indy game and comics retailers with a brick and mortar shop into being high volume low margin internet boiler rooms themselves or just plain out of business.
Not that I am bitter or nuthin' ...
